Born and raised in Belgium, artist Frederic Coutsier has made a name for himself as an expert in faux finishing techniques and fine art. As a boy he stood behind his mother as she walked him through museums, castles and gardens, and marveled at the intricacies of the finishes all around him.  From the vibrant contrast in the stones and bricks to the rich swirling patinas, he wished to himself that he could one day re-create what he saw.

Frederic studied in Belgium at the Institute Superieur de Peinture Decorative Van Der Kelen-Logelain, a prestigious school specializing in traditional finish techniques. It was here that Frederic learned the skills of authentic Trompe l’oeil, Marmorino and Venetian Plaster, Mosaic, Tadelakt and Lime Washing, Glazing and Moulding. The philosophy is looking to the past while moving into the future. Frederic upholds this philosophy by keeping these old world traditions alive and relevant in modern interior design.

In addition to faux finishing, Frederic also has an education and background in Interior Design. He has designed homes across Europe as well as building and decorating theatre stages in France and Italy. As a passionate artist and designer, Frederic’s goal is to transform an ordinary space into a work of art. He also manufactures his own paints, lime washes and plasters so that every project is unique. His work is based on quality, attention to detail and a simple love of the The level of craft.
